My first photography workshop!

23 & 24 August 2013 Stellenbosch

For the past three years I have been wanting to host a workshop but never pushed myself to get the ball rolling to fulfil this ideal of mine. This year, about 8 weeks ago, I woke up one morning and decided this year is the year for my first workshop and no matter what, I am going to set my fears aside and simply start organising it! And what a wonderful experience and learning curve it was! Although I must admit there were times when I was very nervous looking at my various ‘to do lists’ :). In the end I was blessed with 9 lovely talented ladies who signed up and getting to know each one of them was equally as rewarding as hosting the workshop. Day one started early and was very busy with 3 shoots lined up for the day – a décor table, bridal shoot and then the couple shoot. Day 2 was mainly focused on post production and I discussed my workflow from start to finish. Topics covered during the workshop were: Utilising your equipment and lighting aids; Choosing your settings; Using the aperture to its fullest potential; Shooting in Manual; Determining and defining you style; Valuable lessons I’ve learnt; Virtues, in my opinion, of a successful photographer; Client interaction and pricing; Contracts, systems and tax; Branding and advertising; Programs and suppliers I use

I am looking forward to hosting a workshop hopefully next year again!

This workshop was a team effort and I simply can’t thank these people enough:

Marli Basson for being in charge of the gorgeous make-up and hair for both Karina and Carla

Marlize from Flower Heart in Durbanville for the beautiful bouquet and table arrangements

Karina Conradie for being the timeless, beautiful bride

Carla & Charl Burger for being the spontaneous, cute couple

Mariska Muller for helping me on the day

My wonderful mother, Martie and friend, Estelle, for preparing the delicious food

And lastly for the 9 lovely ladies who attended: Nadia Holzhausen, Claire Harries, Angelique de Villiers, Angelique Smith, Elana Conradie, Nicky Stowe, Carla Burger, Karina Conradie and Mariska Muller – thank you so much!

Below are a few photos taken by me on the first day of the workshop:
